Our story

— 01 · Our story

A studio shaped by what we find along the way.

PixelRain began in Cornwall in 2012, and we have built and run it together ever since. Our office at Tremough Innovation Centre in Penryn has been home to the business from the start, and Falmouth is home to both of us. Food and drink came first: restaurant kitchens, producers, recipes and the small details that make something feel real on screen. It taught us to notice texture, pace, people and place. It also taught us that the most convincing work rarely needs to shout.

What followed

From there, the work widened. Food led into travel and destinations, then hospitality and property, and the same instinct now carries into brand films, documentaries, campaigns and original series. Alongside the work on this site, we partner with agencies on productions for some of the UK's biggest brands, which has taken us across the UK and into parts of Europe.

The places it takes us

The best part of the job is where it takes us and who we meet. We have followed scallop fishermen off Shetland, traced local cheese from farm to plate and joined a chef foraging at first light for a dish still in development. We have flown drones over the Isles of Scilly, learned how railway teams stay safe on the lines, helped a landmark London hotel launch its newest restaurant and brought museum exhibitions to life alongside the characters and contributors behind them.

What stays the same

The subjects change, but the approach does not. We take the time to understand what makes a brand run, behind the scenes and up front, then make the content that will work hardest for it. Much of our best work happens inside long relationships, where film becomes an ongoing tool rather than a one-off and we act as an extension of the client's own team. Those relationships are the part we enjoy most.

— 02 · The studio

The people who shape the work.

Thoughtful filmmaking needs a balance of craft, perspective and good people around the table. Here's who leads the work at PixelRain.

Rich Stephens, PixelRain filmmaker, on location in the Isles of Scilly

Technical Director & Filmmaker

Rich Stephens

Rich is a filmmaker with a keen eye for detail and a deep appreciation for the craft behind great visuals. As Technical Director, he supports every stage of production, from filming through to post, ensuring the final product looks and sounds the way it should.

He shares shooting duties on set, then focuses on the finishing touches in post: colour grading, sound design and audio mix. He also brings extensive drone experience to the team, often flying when aerial footage is needed.

Rich works closely with clients, bringing calm, clarity and a quiet confidence that keeps things on track.

Grant Batty, PixelRain Creative Director and filmmaker, filming on location

Creative Director & Filmmaker

Grant Batty

Grant is a filmmaker and editor with a calm, thoughtful approach and a strong instinct for story. As Creative Director, he helps shape each project from first brief to final delivery, bringing narrative clarity and emotional depth to everything we make.

On set, Grant captures content with a shared visual style developed over years of collaboration. Back in the studio, he takes the first pass in the edit, weaving together picture, sound and rhythm to create stories that feel honest and engaging.

He is often the creative guide when tone and narrative are key, bringing focus, perspective and an ability to put people at ease.

— Our extended team

Trusted people, brought in when the story needs them.

Every project is different. Some need a focused production with a camera and a clear brief; others call for a wider crew of stylists, models, voiceover artists, motion designers, animators, sound engineers, drone pilots, location scouts and more.

We've spent years building a network of trusted collaborators who know how we work and share our standards. It means every project can scale to fit the idea, without bringing in capacity you don't need.

— 03 · Cornwall, then wherever

The light, landscape and pace of Cornwall shape how we see.

We're rooted in Cornwall. The light, the landscape, the creative community here shapes how we see and work. But we're not a local studio that only works locally.

We travel constantly. London, Bristol, Devon, across the UK, and beyond when the project calls for it. Our entire operation is built to work remotely. Starlink on location, cloud-based editing, Frame.io reviews. Distance isn't a barrier. It's just logistics, and we've designed around it.

Built for the road

Wherever you are, we've made it work for years. We're used to being on the road, and the collaboration between shoots happens seamlessly wherever you are.
